Uruk

The uruk are a synthetic race, magically-created hybrids of humans and gargun (mostly Gargu-Khanu or black goblins). Also known as orcs, they were bred as shock troopers during Ragnarök but now live as a free race and are spreading throughout Asgård.

Like trollborn, uruks are not well accepted by most Asgårdian cultures. Not only are they are viewed with antipathy by humans, dwarves and elves; but they are mistrusted (and often mistreated) by trolls and giants. They are held in awe by gargun, however, and often lead tribes of goblins.

As I mentioned before, I’m a player in a D&D 2e Rise of the Runelords campaign run by P. Armstrong (from Ode to Black Dougal). I play Klack – a slag dwarf fighter/thief from the Kodar Mountains of Golarion. Another guy plays Kilin – a fighter/cleric and Klack’s half-brother.

Anyhow, thought I should post a picture of the minis we’re using for the PCs:

(That’s Klack on the left, and Kilin on the right.)

Observe that they are holding twin Frost Axes, won from the lair of Mokmurian. Also, note Klack’s preference for the colour green. (His Swamp Boots are particularly fetching.)

We just made it into Xin Shalast in this week’s session. I’m pretty sure that awesomeness (or else certain death) await.

Chris from Yoda Archives points out some more Tolkien-themed LEGO dwarf goodness (via the Hollywood Reporter):

From left: Gandalf, Dwalin, Bombur, Bofur, Bilbo, and Balin

The wizard and hobbit are forgettable, but check out those other badasses! Bofur’s LEGO fur cap is FABULOUS! Makes the evil dwarf from the Series 5 look like a pantywaist…

Shelob Attacks

Not necessarily dwarf-related, but nonetheless cool…

Last week I picked up some LEGO for my (ahem) son. It was the Lord of the Rings “Shelob Attacks” set.

Check out that articulated spider attack action. The web is completely retractable, and everything is fully mobile.

The hobbit minifigs are beardless and therefore not badass like dwarves, but they do come with short dwarf legs so I can use the parts to build up my LEGO dwarf army

LEGO Dwarves

A while back I posted a picture with LEGO dwarves, but I didn’t realize until today that they were actually a thing. (LEGO dwarf has actually been one of the more popular search terms bringing new visitors to this site.)

It looks like I’ve missed the boat on dwarf LEGO, though. Only three sets were produced, around ’07 and ’08. There was even a Dwarf Battle Pack, with five dwarven minifigs.

I absolutely have to get my hands on one of these for PC minis if I ever get a tabletop of Dwarven Glory going…

Merry Christmas, everyone.
